Hairstyle

When choosing a hairstyle one should always consider whether or not the hair style will suit your face shape. Many woman change their hair styles according to latest fashion trends while others maintain their same old styles as every individual has unique face cut, hair type and hair color. You can change your hairstyle according to the occasion.

For a square face choose a hair style with long layers preferably one with soft waves or curls, as these create a softness that detracts from the hard lines. Those with a square jaw line can take the edge off with a softening style that features side parting and longer hair at the nape of neck. A must avoid is a center parting or straight cut hair around the jaw line or even square bangs on the forehead. These geometric lines will only accentuate the strong structure of a square face even more.

For a oval face: Oval Shape is regarded by many experts as the perfect face shape. If your face is oval in shape, then you have the advantage of being able to wear any hair style you choose. Oval faces are considered perfect for hairstyling and afford a lot of experimentation to the stylist too. However, much depends on the quality of hair one has: thin, lush, wavy, straight, silky etc. Oval faces look good with a haircut that adds volume to the top of head to slim down the forehead. Such faces would smartly avoid hairstyles that include spikes, short topsides or too much volume on the sides.

For a round face choose a style with a short fringe, which lengthens the face and a short cut which makes the face look thinner. Round faces can add a bit of volume to the top of the head to slim down. Avoid spiky and short topside styling to your hair and any haircut that gives width or volumizes the sides of your face.
For a long face choose a style with short layers or go for a bob with a fringe which will create horizontal lines. Scrunch dried or curly bobs balance a long face. Long faces can layer it on for fullness on sides. Such faces must avoid short cuts, jaw-length bobs, or styles that add height on top.

Party Tips

Make-up that looks just fine in the sunshine can look faded and washed out under artificial lighting. Use warmer and deeper colors for the evenings.

If your face is too full, use a little blusher on the high part of the cheek, closer to the nose. Blend lightly across the too full area.
If your face is too slender, create an illusion of width. Place your blusher on thecurve of the cheek, slightly away from the nose. Blend well, out and above to the temples.

If your face is square and heavy along the jaw line, soften the angles of the jawline by shadowing. Pat on blusher, then blend down across the square part.

A soft blending of rouge under the jaw line or chin takes away a heavy drooping effect .Your jaw line can look more clear-cut with this trickfor the evening.

To accentuate the cheek bones for evening makeup, use a liquid foundationa shade lighter than usual. Apply it in little dabs on the top of the cheek bones and on to the corners of the nose. Blend well.

To focus extra attention on eyes and mouth, circle the outer edge of the face very lightly with blusher .Blend with feathery strokes.

Powder blushers give you color without shine--- oily skins should avoid cream blushers.

Does your face look terribly oily halfway through the day? Your complexion can look and stay natural and soft all day if you try this trick:Take a blusher brush, clean
it with cool water and allow to dry. Then sprinklesome baby powder into the open bristles. Dust this powder over your face before applying your foundation.

If your complexion is too sallow ,don’t be tempted by a clear beige or very pink foundation. Avoid yellow or green colors in make –up, these two colors bring out the sallow color of your skin. Go in for warm beige foundation and clear blue eyeshadows. Lipsticks are best in medium tones.

If your complexion is too pale, don’t use a pink foundation. Choose a clear natural foundation for a natural look. Avoid very dark eyeshadows and lipsticks. They would make you look too intense and tired. Go in for dull rust or brown eyeshades. Use a soft blusher on cheeks, chin and forehead.

Never try to match eye shadow color to your eye color and lip color to nail color ---------- result will be too dated.

If you wear false eyelashes, make them look natural by brushing both the false and real lashes with a little mascara after putting them on.

To achieve a subtler look, instead of using eyeliner draw the thinnest possible line at the roots of the eyelashes with a soft dark brown eyeshadow.

In winter use pearly-gray and shell-beige eyeshadows. Avoid highlighters during the daytime, as they would look too harsh.

If your lips are too thin and straight, apply your lipstick from slightly above the line of the upper lip and slightly below the line of the lower lip. Curve the linesslightly with a lip pencil. Make your lips look fuller by using a darker and richer shade of lipstick in the center and a lighter one in the corners.

Natural Dry Skin Remedies & Treatment Products for Hydrated Facial Skin

Vitamins and Natural Oils that May Help Dry Skin
Drinking lots of water is one remedy for dry skin, but if your skin is very dry, you may need additional help. You may have noticed that many skin care creams contain vitamins: although Vitamin E has been shown to work externally to correct dry skin, most other vitamins don't have a noticeable effect. Look for Vitamin E enriched skin creams, and increase its effects by also taking Vitamin E capsules, which help strengthen skin from the inside.

Another benefit of taking Vitamin E is that it works on the skin all over your body—hands, feet, face and everything in between. Other natural remedies for dry skin include Evening Primrose oil, flaxseed oil or Omega 3 oils derived from fish. All of these nutritional supplements have been shown to increase skin's elasticity, its rebuilding capacity and its moisture. You can get these treatments at any health food store, and most pharmacies carry them too.

Diet and Nutritional Changes that Will Improve Skin’s Appearance
Support the health of your skin by eating plenty of fresh fish (providing you with Omega 3). Adding a tablespoon of flax seeds to your morning cereal tastes good and increases your essential fatty acid intake. These nutritional steps do more than fix your dry skin: they're also natural cures for everything from stomach problems to heart disease.

Products, Lotions and Skin Care that May Help Keep Skin Hydrated
If you've recently started using an antiaging lotion or cream, you may suddenly develop dry skin. Creams that contain retinol, alpha lipoic acid, or either alpha or beta hydroxyl acids work by chemically exfoliating (breaking down) upper layers of skin. If you experience peeling, redness, scaly skin or a rash, stop using your new cream and try something with milder ingredients or a lessened concentration of the main ingredients. Some people have gotten contact dermatitis from the very skin creams that were supposed to solve their dry skin problems!

The best products for your complexion are usually the simplest: look for creams that have not been tested on animals and whose main ingredients are natural. Read the ingredients list on the back of the label! Consider ingredients like beeswax, plant oils, herbal extracts and basic ingredients such as glycerin and water.

Acne treatment can lead to peeling or dry skin; especially over the counter products containing salicylic acid or peroxide. Allergies to menthol, camphor and eucalyptus can also cause scaly, irritated skin, so if you're using a Noxzema type product or a nice-smelling toner, you might want to switch to something that doesn't contain those ingredients.

For Extreme Dry Skin Treatment and Relief
Extreme dry skin can get relief through intensive therapy by way of daytime moisturizer lotion, night creams and increased home humidity. If you suffer from dry facial skin or dry skin all over your body, especially in winter, it may be because the heat in your house is drying you out. Try putting a cool mist humidifier in your bedroom at night, and you may see a difference in a few days. A popular home remedy for dryness is the moisturizing facial mask. Use a half of a ripe avocado, pureed. Rinse your face with lukewarm water and apply the mask while your face is still damp. Leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse off with lukewarm water and pat dry. Apply your favorite moisture lotion.

Skin Conditions that Lead to Scaly, Itchy SkinEczema starts out looking and feeling like extremely dry skin, with itching and redness increasing until you may have scaly patches, clear, fluid filled bubbles , or welts on your arms, legs, face, eyelids or body. Eczema isn't dry skin, however: it's your body's allergic response to causes in the environment, and it can be worsened by stress. If you think you have eczema, talk with your doctor to find out about treatments: although dry skin remedies may be part of controlling eczema, you may also need treatment with corticosteroids, antihistamines, a special ointment for relief of itching, or other prescription drug therapy.

How to Polish, File, and Buff Nails Like a Professional Nail Salon

In addition, many women are forgoing their weekly trip to their professional nail technician and are doing their nails at home. However, knowing how to properly buff and prepare their nails can be a challenge. If not done correctly, you can actually damage your nails. So, take a look at these easy steps and learn the correct way to buff nails.

Use Salon Products and Tools
There are thousands of nail products on the market today and knowing which tools you need to properly buff your nails can be tricky. However, if you visit your local beauty store you will need to pick up only a few products. First, a handheld nail buffer is essential on your list of supplies. These look similar to emery boards; however they have several different colored panels and appear more like a foam block. You may also want to grab a few bottles of colored polish or OPI polish in French white if you’d like to give yourself a French manicure.

Before Filing or Buffing
Before you start filing away at your nails, there are a few things you should do first. Be sure to remove all old polish with a gentle finger nail polish remover. Look for those without acetone for the gentlest results. After getting rid of the polish, soak your hands in warm soapy water for ten minutes. This will soften your nails and skin to allow you to not only buff your nails better but also remove the unwanted cuticle areas. You can make your own homemade hand spa by filling a large bowl with warm water and adding a small amount of scented bath oil to the water. After soaking your hands, be sure to dry them completely.

Buff Nails the Right Way
To begin, grab your nail buffer and file your nails as you normally would (rounded, square or oval). With the roughest side of the buffer, start to buff your nails. Use a gently side-to-side motion when doing this. The main purpose of this phase is to smooth out any major ridges your nails may have. Next, use the next roughest side of your buffer and repeat the process. This will further work any ridges out of your nail area. To finish the buffing phase, utilize the smoothest part of the buffer to polish your nails until they shine.
Be sure not to be too rough when you are using the first few sides of the buffer. These are meant to only be used gently on the nails. Being too aggressive can lead to a split or chip in the nail, which is almost always difficult to repair properly.

Tips for Professional Salon Results
After you’ve successfully buffed your nails, consider taking your homemade manicure to the next level. Grab your favorite lotion (with or without sun block) and a pair of clean cotton gloves (socks will work if you don’t have gloves). Lather your hands in the lotion, put them into the gloves and wait for ten minutes. When you pull your hands out, wash and dry them well. You will find they are incredibly natural and soft! Be sure to wipe your nails well, apply a top coat of polish and begin painting them in your desired color. Allow the first coat of polish to set and apply another thin coat. Finish with a top coat and allow it to dry.As you can see, getting beautiful nails doesn’t necessarily require an expensive trip to the salon. So, instead of spending money on artificial acrylic nails this season, consider taking the natural route and doing your nails and toe nails yourself at home!

Causes, Treatment and Prevention of Hair Loss in Women

Hair loss in women can be embarrassing and difficult to live with. It's vital for all women to understand the causes, treatment, prevention and solutions available for hair loss.

Medical Causes of Hair Loss in Women
Hair loss in women can include total balding, thinning or anything in between the two. It can be temporary or permanent. Often women experience hair loss due to a medical condition and when the condition is discovered and controlled, the hair loss subsides. The medical name for hair loss is alopecia. People often mistake alopecia for something only men experience however more women are beginning to come forward as sufferers of hair loss.
Some women experience hair loss due to a hormone imbalance (common after childbirth and during pregnancy), an undiagnosed disease or stress. Often, women are born with gene making them susceptible to genetic hair loss associated with aging. Other causes of hair loss in women are linked to the thyroid, vitamin deficiency and diabetes. If a woman's hormones are not balanced, she can experience hair excessive loss. This is a common occurrence in women who aren't very tolerant of birth control pills or other hormonal contraception options.

Treatment Solutions for Balding
When it comes to hair loss treatments for women, there are many options. Women must first obtain a medical physical from a dermatologist, a general practitioner or a doctor with knowledge in dermatology of the head. Most physicians aren't thrilled with the idea of using a systemic treatment (a medication/pill that will affect your entire body system). Thus, topical scalp treatments are most commonly prescribed.
Minoxidil is one of the most common hair restoration treatments. It was once used to treat high blood pressure. However, patients using it noticed increased hair growth. It was tested and discovered when applied topically to the scalp it helped restore hair growth. Most women begin treating their hair loss with Minoxidil. While it works for many, it doesn't work for everyone.

Hormone Deficiency Can Cause Hair Loss in Women
If women are lacking estrogen or progesterone and are experiencing hair loss, they will likely be prescribed a hormone replacement therapy system (HRT). This will give their bodies the hormones they need and naturally help restore hair growth. Much like the loss of testosterone in men, a loss of female hormones can be the cause of hair loss in women.
A popular drug for preventing prostate problems, Propecia is now being used for hair loss in men and women. It is quite effective. However, it cannot be taken by women who are pregnant because of a possible risk to male fetuses.
While hair loss in women can be difficult to cope with, it's important to know there are many solutions available. Women now have access to many treatments and medications which can quickly restore hair growth. In addition, while they're waiting for the hair growth treatment to take action they can take advantage of terrific wigs and trendy hair extensions made for those with thinning hair!

Aromatherapy Associates range

The summer sun and prolonged exposure to it does no one’s skin any favours. But as luck would have it, Aromatherapy Associates, one of our most trusted aromatherapy brands, has come up with a solution of sorts this year. It has applied the same, therapeutic principles it’s used in its wildly popular facials to devise the ideal body treatment for parched skin.
Appropriately named ‘Enrich’, the luxurious, 90-minute skincare ritual delivers the satisfaction and results of a facial. The treatment begins with an invigorating full body exfoliation (hands and feet included) using the Enrich collection’s all-natural body scrub. Containing coffee, frankincense and sea-salt, the formula not only stimulates and tones the skin, but nourishes, detoxifies and improves circulation. A specially devised body serum, infused with patchouli, tuberose and vanilla, is then applied to lock in moisture while conditioning the skin with soothing aloe vera and mineral-rich algae.
Not an inch is left untouched - the whole body, even cuticles, are massaged with the exotic, nourishing oil (made up of a triple-treat blend of evening primrose, macadamia nut and coconut oils) before a final layer of aromatic body butter is applied to leave a decadently soft finish to the skin.
Now if all this sounds a little heavy, fret not as the Enrich body treatment leaves not a trace of grease. 'Our Enrich body treatment was born out of working with our spa customers in Barbados and Dubai, where products for treating really dry, out of condition skin were required. It's something that affects us all at some stage and we felt that a skin ritual for the body could help to address this,’ explained Aromatherapy Associates’ co-founder, Geraldine Howard. 'The treatment is akin to a facial.'
For those who want to be able to spoil themselves with such luxury in the comfort of their own homes, the four signature products of the Enrich collection are available for purchase – the first full product range in four years. Our summer just got a little better.

The Guy’s Attention

Full locks keep a guy’s eyes planted on you. He can’t help himself: Thick, bouncy hair is a sign of youth and good health, says anthropologist Helen Fisher, PhD. And men are subconsciously drawn to those qualities because they signal fertility. But don’t use three cans of hair spray to pump things up. “Guys are attracted to styles they can run their fingers through,” says Normant. Just work mousse (like Paul Mitchell Sculpting Foam, $7.95) into damp hair before blow-drying. Use a large-barrel curling iron to create waves, part hair down the middle to give the look a slight edge...and then start taking numbers.

Wacky Beauty Tips That Work

1) Powder Your Roots
If your hairline starts to look greasy, dig up a big, fluffy makeup brush, and dip it into a pot of loose powder. Tap it once on the back of your hand to remove the excess, then dust it over your roots. It mops up oil and blends into your strands, so no one will know you didn't shower.

2) Scent Strands with Perfume
Spray a light shot of fragrance into the bristles. Run it through strands from roots to ends and your hair will smell amazing throughout the day.

3) Cure Calluses with Vaseline
Slather on the petroleum jelly, and put on socks before bed to dissolve tough calluses overnight.

4) Spot-Treat Smudges
Dip a cotton swab in eye-makeup remover, and trace it along your lids to erase any slipups or goofs when there's no time to redo your whole look.

5) Fix a Flushed Face
If you turn red and stay that way after exercising (like seriously red for hours, even though you're healthy and hydrated), take an antihistamine like Benadryl when you leave the gym to reduce redness.

6) Soften Your Bod with Avocado
Take a ripe avocado, remove the pit and skin, and mash it up in a bowl. Slather it all over your body, let it sit for 20 minutes, then rinse off. Your skin will be sooo soft — avocado is a natural moisturizer.

Madonna is unlikely inspiration for 50-plus set Forget scandals, many women see a fit, stylish, vigorous and successful icon

updated 2:56 p.m. ET Aug. 15, 2008

NEW YORK - Sure, Madonna may have scandalized the Vatican and shocked nearly every parent in America at some point during her long and provocative career full of shrewd image transformations.

But as the Material Girl hits the half-century mark this weekend, she may be stepping into a role that even she, with all her marketing savvy, might not have dreamed up: poster child for the 50-and-fabulous set.

Who cares about those recent tabloid headlines linking her to the Yankees’ A-Rod, or that tell-all book by her brother? Many women of a certain age look at Madonna and see a wonderfully fit, stylish, vigorous woman who’s made a fortune based on smarts, talent and ambition — no “Blond Ambition” puns, please — and just keeps on going. Her latest world tour, “Sticky & Sweet,” kicks off in Wales a week after her Aug. 16 birthday.
